Fresh off winning the inaugural ATP Cup for Serbia, where the Serb won all his 6 singles matches, Djokovic opened his campaign for a record-extending 8th Australian Open title with a win over German Jan-Lennard Struff.

After edging the first set on a tiebreak, Djokovic looked in cruise control in the second. To his credit though, Struff fought back by taking the third set.

Normal service soon resumed as Djokovic upped the ante to close out a four-set win, for his 900th singles victory on tour. The Serb, in the process, became only the sixth player overall and third active to reach the milestone in the all-time match wins leaderboard - which is headed by Jimmy Connors (1274) and Roger Federer (1238).
