10-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic will face 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open on Tuesday, January 21. It will be their first meeting after the 2024 Olympics Gold Medal match, which Djokovic won to complete his Career Golden Grand Slam. It is their eighth meeting overall. They have met twice in the Wimbledon finals, but it is the first at a hardcourt Grand Slam.
37-year-old Djokovic leads his Spanish rival 2-0 in head-to-head hardcourt meetings. Chasing his 100th ATP title and 25 Grand Slam wins, Djokovic has an 11-3 record in his previous quarterfinals at the Australian Open. On the other hand, four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz has reached the last eight at Melbourne Park for the second time. He lost to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open last year.
Alcaraz is three wins away from becoming the youngest player to complete the Career Grand Slam, a record held by his compatriot Rafael Nadal.
Djokovic and Alcaraz are in great shape, as Alcaraz has dropped only one set at the 2025 Australian Open so far, whereas Djokovic dropped a set each in his first two matches here, but won the last two in straight sets. So one thing is sure - there will be fireworks in Melbourne on Tuesday.
