Novak Djokovic is on top of the world right now after claiming his third Wimbledon title on Sunday. He claimed that the secret to his incredible 12 months so far has been marriage. The stats seem to prove this; ever since he married Jelena Ristic last July, he has gone on to win a massive 72 matches losing a mere 7 matches in the process.
At 28, Djokovic seems to be reaching the peak of his career and he believes that marriage helps him cope with losses, whichever few he encounters.
“Whether I’m winning or losing, she’s always there. Family’s always there. When I go back home, I’m not a tennis player anymore. I’m a father and a husband.”
“That’s a kind of balance that I think allows me to play this well. Ever since I got married and became a father, I haven’t lost many matches, I won many tournaments. “
In fact, Djokovic swears by this formula so much that he believes other players should tie the knot too and reap the benefits.
“I suggest that to every player, ‘Get married, have kids, let’s enjoy this.”
Considering his scintillating form this year with absolutely no signs of slowing down, there seems to be a lot of significance in his words and other players might just want to take note of his unique advice.
By beating Federer, Djokovic overtook the likes of Fred Perry, Andre Agassi, Ivan Lendl and Jimmy Connors with 9 Grand Slams. Given the speed at which he is racing ahead, he is definitely going to win many more Majors.
