Stearns has a record of 15-15 for the season, which might not be exemplary in itself, but she also won her maiden career title at the Morocco Open in Rabat this year, defeating Mayar Sheriff in the final, and will be carrying some momentum from there.
Stearns did not have any noteworthy performances in the recently concluded grass season, winning just a single match on the surface. She was ousted by fellow American Emma Navarro in the second round of the Bad Homburg Open.

Stearns was in good form on clay this year as she picked up her first career title on the surface at the Morocco Open. She had a decent run until the third round of the 2024 French Open as well, causing a big upset for 10th seed Daria Kasatkina in the second round. She lost to eventual semifinalist Mirra Andreeva in the third.
On the other hand, Li has not been in the best of form in 2024. She did not play a single clay-court match in any of the WTA main draws. Her last and only title came back in 2021 when she won the Tenerife Ladies Open on the hard courts.
Given that she is the third seed and considering her form on the clay, Stearns should be able to win the match easily.
