Alex de Minaur vs Miomir Kecmanovic preview
Ninth seed Alex de Minaur will face Miomir Kecmanovic in the second round of the Paris Masters 2024.
De Minaur drew World No. 45 Mariano Navone in his opener here. The Australian was up and running, and raced to a 3-0 lead in the first set. However, he faltered when it was time to close out the set at 5-4. It looked like the set would soon go to a tie-break.
Navone served to force a tie-break at 6-5, and de Minaur amped up the pressure and broke his serve to take the set. He ran away with the match after that and conceded only one game in the second set to secure a 7-5, 6-1 victory.
Kecmanovic fell in the qualifying rounds to Marcos Giron but got a place in the main draw as a lucky loser. He was up against Sebastian Baez in the first round. The Serb squandered his early lead in the opening set but snagged another break towards the end to claim the set.
Neither player gave up any ground during their service games in the second set, which led to a tie-break. Kecmanovic had a couple of match points but Baez turned the tide to capture the set. It looked like the Argentine was headed for a comeback after he went 3-1 up in the third set. However, the Serb turned things around in the nick of time for a 6-4, 6-7 (6), 7-5 win.

Alex de Minaur vs Miomir Kecmanovic prediction
De Minaur kept his hopes of qualifying for the ATP Finals afloat with a win over Navone. With Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev crashing out of the tournament as well, he will be keen to capitalize on their losses with a deep run here. He won 73 percent of his first serve points and struck 16 winners against 22 unforced errors in the previous round.
Kecmanovic made the most of his second shot with a hard-fought win over Baez. He won 79 percent of points on the back of his first serve and hit 25 winners against 19 unforced errors. However, his journey is likely to come to an end in the next round.
Kecmanovic has a 5-23 career record against top 10 players and has gone 1-5 against them this year. Given his struggles against quality opposition, de Minaur will be expected to come out on top in this encounter.
Pick: Alex de Minaur to win in straight sets.
