Leylah Fernandez vs Angelique Kerber preview
16th seed Leylah Fernandez will take on 2016 silver medalist Angelique Kerber for a place in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Tuesday (July 30).
Fernandez has been in great form lately, having won nine of her last 12 outings on the WTA Tour. The 21-year-old started her campaign at this year's Games in gutsy fashion, outlasting the resurgent Czech Karolina Muchova 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 to reach the second round. She followed up with a straight-sets victory over Spain's Cristina Bucsa in her next match to record multiple wins at the Olympics for the first time in her career.
Kerber, meanwhile, recently announced that the Paris Olympics will mark her last tournament as a pro. The three-time Major winner defeated fellow former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka in her opener, before getting the better of Romania's Jaqueline Cristian in three sets to reach the Round of 16.
The German secured a silver medal in the women's singles competition at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She also reached the quarterfinals of the 2012 London Olympics and will be eager to repeat the result in Paris this week.

Leylah Fernandez vs Angelique Kerber prediction
Fernandez is one of the most adept female players from the baseline. The left-handed Canadian can produce sharp angles from both wings, and it is hard to hit winners past her. She has done well on service return in her last two matches in Paris as well, winning 52% of her first-return points against Muchova and Bucsa.
Kerber hasn't been returning as potently as Fernandez this week. However, she has made up for it with her accurate serves. The German is also one of the best counterpunchers on the tour and will redirect every shot with interest.
The key for both players will be to move each other around before an opportunity to hit into the open court presents itself. Since Fernandez is the fitter and younger of the two, she is the slight favorite to take this potentially grueling match.
Pick: Fernandez in three sets.
