Milos Raonic vs Dominik Koepfer preview
Canada's Milos Raonic will square off against Germany's Dominik Koepfer in the first round of the Paris Olympics 2024.
Raonic's first match of the season ended on a disappointing note as he had to retire in the first round of the Australian Open. He made the quarterfinals of his next tournament in Rotterdam and had to throw in the towel yet again during his match against Jannik Sinner.
The Canadian beat Sumit Nagal in the first round of the Indian Wells Masters and then withdrew from the tournament. He didn't compete for the next three months and returned to action during the grass swing. He reached the last eight at the Libema Open and lost to Alex de Minaur.
Raonic defeated Cameron Norrie in the first round of the Cinch Championships and then lost to Taylor Fritz. Given his low ranking, he either needed a wildcard to compete at Wimbledon or go through the qualifying rounds. He wasn't given a wildcard and didn't play the qualifiers either.
Koepfer's best result during the early hardcourt season was a fourth-round finish at the Miami Open, his second time making it that far at a Masters event. He began the clay swing with four straight losses and snapped the losing skid with a third-round showing at the Italian Open.
Koepfer then made the last eight of the Lyon Open but was dumped out of the French Open in the first round. He injured himself while competing in one of the tournaments in the lead-up to Wimbledon, and couldn't make the trip to London. He competed at the Hamburg European Open to prepare for the Olympics and lost in the first round.

Milos Raonic vs Dominik Koepfer prediction
Koepfer has a 4-8 record on clay this year and has arrived at the Olympics on a three-match losing streak on the surface. Raonic, on the other hand, hasn't even played a match on the red dirt until now.
The Canadian's injury struggles have sidelined him from most tournaments he has participated in this year. However, that wasn't the case in his last two events. If his body continues to hold up, then he could have a shot at upstaging the German.
This will be Raonic's first appearance on the French Open courts since 2017. He reached at least the fourth round in his last three appearances at the venue. However, his lack of match prep on clay could prove to be detrimental, and give Koepfer the edge to make it through this clash.
Pick: Dominik Koepfer to win in three sets.
