Rising Indian tennis players Purav Raja and Divij Sharan continued their impressive run this season to book a spot in the final of the Claro Open in Bogota. The fourth-seeded Indian pair shocked the top-seeded Columbian pair of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in straight sets 6-2 6-3.
Playing against the home team and the top seeds, the Indians did not show any sign of nerves as they did not provide a single break point opportunity in the opening set. The Indians broke the Columbian pair twice and raced away with the opening set 6-2. The Indian pair did not let the tempo down in the second set as well and secured the crucial break of serve to win the set and secure their first-ever ATP tour final.
The Indian duo will now play second seeds Edouard Roger Vasselin and Igor Sisling – who defeated Ivo Karlovic-Frank Moser 6-1 7-6(3) in their semifinal encounter - in the championship match.
The Indian pair has had a terrific few months, reaching the main draw of Wimbledon where they lost out in a close 5-set encounter in the opening round. Purav Raja and Divij Sharan won the Kyoto challenger earlier this year and also reached the finals of the challenger tournaments in Johannesburg, Nottingham and Leon.
