Rafael Nadal shunted off Court Philippe Chatrier again

Rafael Nadal has won the French Open on eight occasions. But that’s still not enough for him to play his quarterfinal match against David Ferrer at the showpiece Phillipe Chatrier court.

The French Open organizers have made way for local lad Gael Monfils to take the show court for his quarterfinal match against Andy Murray.

Monfils hasn’t made a single Grand Slam final in almost a decade.

Nadal was denied the Philippe Chatrier court in his first round match as well. He took on American Robby Ginepri on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

The two men’s matches which were played on Court Philippe Chatrier that day featured No. 2 Novak Djokovic and No. 3 Stan Wawrinka.

John Isner had described the move as “really bizarre”. This is what John Isner had to say before that match:

“I mean, how many times does the guy have to win the tournament to be able to have his first match on Chatrier. No offense to Stan, but if you look at it, I figured they’d be flip flopped. But I don’t think Rafa really cares that much. He’s just going to go out there and try to win.”

“I believe Robby got up at 8:00 in the morning to hit on Chatrier this morning,” Isner added, laughing.

Nadal will look to avenge his loss against Ferrer at the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this year, where Ferrer had won in straight sets 7-6(1), 6-4. This was Ferrer’s first win on clay against his compatriot in 10 years.
