After confirming yesterday that he will be missing the tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati due to a wrist injury, defending US Open champion Rafael Nadal came on twitter tonight to let everyone know that instead of a watch, he’ll be sporting a cool black splint. He even posted a picture of the splint on his wrist with the caption “For two weeks I’m changing my watch for this splint”.
Here’s the tweet that Rafa posted:
Nadal's doctor, Dr Cotorro said "It is a common injury in tennis, but it must be well treated to avoid problems." However, he was fairly cautious as to whether or not Nadal would be fit for the US Open. "The recovery period is between two and three weeks, we'll see how gets and from the evolution if he can participate or not", said the good doctor.
The recent injury has just made Nadal’s intentions of being world number 1 harder. He has high amount of points to defend as he won all three main tournaments during the summer hard court season last year. But, pulling out of the US Open would mean loss of a total of 4000 points for him! That way it looks like Nadal will have a tough time at the end of the year to finish as number 1.
