Carlos Alcaraz had an incredible 2024 season, as he won two Grand Slams at the French Open and Wimbledon. The Spaniard thus became the youngest to win the Channel Slam, which is triumphing at the clay and grass Majors during the same year.

With his US Open triumph in 2022, the Australian Open is the only Major that eludes the former World No. 1. His best performance at the Melbourne Major till date is reaching the quarterfinals in 2024, where he lost to Alexander Zverev.

While Alcaraz is yet to reach the semifinals of the Australian Open, he has what it takes to win the tournament. The 21-year-old's quality make him among the favorites to win the Asia Pacific Major in 2025.

On that note, let us take a look at some of the reasons why Carlos Alcaraz has a chance of winning Australian Open 2025.

#3. Off-season will enable Carlos Alcaraz to get a mental reset

The 2024 season was a gauntlet of big tournaments for Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard played in the French Open, Wimbledon, and the Olympics in three months. The cycle culminated in a heartbreaking loss to Novak Djokovic in the Olympic final, which threw the Spaniard off his game in the latter half of the season.

However, the off-season will give Alcaraz some time to prepare himself for the 2025 season mentally. The Spaniard has also been not completely out of tennis, as he has played a few exhibition events in the USA, which keeps him in match form as well.

By his admission, Alcaraz plays his best tennis when he is enjoying his game and the moment. The off-season break will have given the Spnaiard the perfect mental reset needed for him to clinch the last missing Major from his resume.

#2 Addition of Samuel Lopez to his coaching team

Alcaraz has brought in reinforcements to his coaching personnel ahead of the 2025 season. The Spaniard has included veteran coach Samuel Lopez to team up with Juan Carlos Ferrero for the upcoming year.

The addition of a new coach will help the World No. 3 to become more consistent in his results. The serving prowess proved to be the Achilles heel for Alcaraz in 2024. Despite winning two Major titles, the Spaniard was only the 12th-best server on the Tour as per ATP metrics.

Bringing in a new coach like Lopez will help Alcaraz get a new perspective and help him solve his serving vulnerabilities.

#1 Superior five-set record will put Carlos Alcaraz above the others

Grand Slams are the only events in the modern tennis schedule where the matches go five sets. Therefore the individual record of players when the matches go to five sets becomes very crucial.

At 12 wins and only one loss, Carlos Alcaraz has the best five-set record in the history of the game. Even at such a young age, the Spaniard has demonstrated that he has the physical fitness and the mental resolve to win crucial matches in the fifth set, and was seen in his 2023 Wimbledon triumph over Novak Djokovic.

This puts Alcaraz above his competitors, especially the defending champion Jannik Sinner. the Spaniard has a 6-4 lead in the head-to-head over the Italian with two five-set victories over the World No. 1. The World No. 3 has a 3-0 record against Sinner in the 2024 season, which could have a rippling effect in the duo's rivalry in 2025 as well.
