Roger Federer, the third seed who was playing for the first time since Wimbledon, lead wild card Juan Ignacio Londero 6-3, 2-2 when rain forced their match to be suspended.
The 38-year old Swiss Maestro came back on court refreshed after the delay to finish the match at 6-4, in just over 60 minutes of court time.
