Greatest of All Time Roger Federer and World No. 2 Andy Murray engaged in a spot of Twitter banter yesterday with a user sharing a picture of Murray signing the ATP rankings board in Federer’s spot rather than his own.
The Scot’s reaction had been a direct result of Federer signing in Murray’s #2 spot a while earlier, with the picture captioned "When Federer thinks he is still No. 2,” as Murray wore a bemused expression.
Federer retweeted the picture, telling rival Murray “if you snooze, you lose.”
Their rivalry is a close one, with Federer winning 14 of the 25 matches the two have played. It is the Swiss who has won all of the pair's last five outings, however. The two will both play at the ATP Monte Carlo Masters, currently underway in the Monegasque capital. The tournament is Federer’s first after recovering from meniscus surgery; he had been due to play Argentine Juan Martin del Potro at the Miami Masters, but withdrew with a virus.
The two last faced off against each other at the semi-finals of the 2015 Cincinnati Masters - also known as the Western and Southern Open, where reigning champion Federer successfully defended his title, defeating World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the final.
