India’s Sania Mirza and Zimbabwe’s Cara Black have booked their place in the semi-finals of the Sony Tennis Open in Miami with a straight sets win over Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik.
The semi-final showdown will feature the fifth-ranked duo line up against Martina Hingis and Sabine Lisicki.
Sania and Black were broken twice in the opening set but they broke their opponents three times to seal the set. They saved all four break points in the second set while breaking Peschke-Srebotnik once, to canter to the win.
“The conditions are really quick here. We had a good start and came out really solid. We’re very pleased with that result.” commented Black after coming out victorious with a score of 6-4, 6-3 over the fourth-seeded pair.
Sania Mirza has already shifted her focus away from the win and to the upcoming semifinal match, and she was quick to acknowledge the task that lies ahead. “They (Martina and Sabine) were down a bunch of match points. They are obviously a great team. We have to stick to our game plan, focus on ourselves and do what we do best.”
