The top-seeded Indo-Swiss pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis have beat the Polish-Australian pair of Klaudia Jans-Ignacik and Anastasia Rodionova in straight sets – 6-3, 6-2, to take an easy victory at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open in Wuhan, China, a WTA event.
The pair committed only a single double fault in the entire match to their competitors’ two, saving 2 of their 3 break points in the . Their competitors reached break point 10 times, saving only 6 of these.
Mirza and Hingis, who are fresh off two Grand Slam victories this year, hit 3 aces in the match with none by Rodionova and Jans-Ignacik.
The tournament is played on hard courts, and saw Russian ace Maria Sharapova in a comeback match, her first competitive tennis tournament since Wimbledon earlier this year, where she lost to World No. 1 Serena Williams in the semi-finals.
Leading Czech Barbora Strycova, Sharapova suffered an injury that caused her to bow out of the tournament; she aims to be back in action for the WTA finals, however, scheduled to be held in Singapore at the end of October.
Mirza and Hingis also won the recently concluded Guangzhou Open, also in China, beating Chinese competitors Shilin Xu and Xiaodi You in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 to take the title.
