India’s No. 1 women’s tennis player Sania Mirza has won the $2,000,000 WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis tournament. She combined with her American partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands to beat Nadia Petrova of Russia and Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 in an 1 hour 32 minute battle.
The Indo-US pair won the first set quite easily but in second set, No. 2 seeded Russian-Slovak pair fought back and won it comprehensively. In the super tie-break, Sania and Mattek were able to keep their nerve and win the match.
The unseeded Indo-US pair won 37 out of a total of 63 service points and 26 out of 62 return points. They also served 2 aces.
The winning pair of Sania and Mattek has played 20 tournaments together. The two have now won all four finals they have contested, including Brisbane last month. It was the 16th career title for Sania Mirza and 6th for Mattek-Sands.
