Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza was fined for violation of traffic rules in Hyderabad on Monday. She was asked to pay Rs. 200 after her SUV was found to have an improper number plate.
"We have issued an e-challan with fine of Rs 200 to Sania Mirza, the owner of the SUV, for the violation," Jubilee Hills Traffic Police Station Inspector Srinivas Reddy told India Today.
The Toyota Fortuner in question had a fancy number plate that did not adhere to the rules and regulations laid out by the traffic police.
“A number plate display like this goes against the Motor Vehicle act, which specifies the size of the letter and the numerals”, a police officer told the Indian Express.
Traffic police photographed the vehicle at Road Number 10, Jubilee Hills.
The news comes on the day Sania Mirza has been recommended for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award by the sports ministry.
