Sebastian Korda is an American professional tennis player, and to many, the future of US tennis. Korda has won one singles title so far in his career and reached his first major quarterfinal at the 2023 Australian Open.
Korda won the 2024 Madrid Open doubles title, defeating Ariel Behar and Adam Pavlasek in the final with Jordan Thompson. He also reached the final of the 2024 Libema Open, losing to Alex de Minaur, and the semifinal of the 2024 Queen's Club Championships, losing to Tommy Paul. He is ranked No. 21 as of June 2024.
Korda was born on July 5, 2000 in Bradenton, Florida, and comes from a family with a rich sporting history, including former tennis players and pro golfers. It is for this very reason that Sebastian Korda once called himself the “worst athlete in the family,” only for his sister Nelly Korda to refute the claim. The 23-year-old has an aggressive style of play and likes to take the ball high up, dictate play, and go to the net whenever possible.
Sebastian Korda Coach
Sebastian Korda is being coached by Radek Stepanek and Martin Stepanek as of June 2024.
Growing up, Radek Stepanek was one of Sebastian Korda’s idols. Stepanek is a former top-10 player, and a specialist in both singles and doubles. He began working with Korda in 2022. In fact, Stepanek was coached by Sebastian Korda’s father Petr Korda during his playing days, and many people credited him for reviving Stepanek’s career.
“It’s a beautiful circle of life that after Petr coached me for so long, I’m now in Sebi’s camp,” Stepanek told reporters in early 2023. Along with Radek, Martin Stepanek is also one of Korda’s coaches. Although the two Stepaneks aren’t related, they have worked in tandem to improve the talented American’s game. Martin Stepanek had previously coached the likes of Tomas Berdych and Borna Coric.
Sebastian Korda Mentor
Alongside the quality coaching he receives, Sebastian Korda has also been fortunate enough to be mentored by Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf. They have been guiding him since 2021, prior to which he even trained with Agassi.
Speaking about Andre Agassi’s influence on his life in January 2023, Korda said, “Yeah he’s one of the most special people in my life. We started talking during Covid in 2020, he’s been one of the biggest parts of my rise.”
