Carlos Alcaraz vs Wu Yibing preview
Third seed and World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz will look to keep his 2024 Shanghai Masters campaign on track when he takes on Chinese wildcard opponent Wu Yibing in the third round. The Spaniard has a 49-9 record in 2024, winning four titles, including two Major titles. The Spaniard entered Shanghai after a triumphant run at the China Open, winning the title after overcoming Jannik Sinner in a three-hour marathon final 6-7 (6), 6-4, 7-6 (3).
The former World No. 1 has fared well on hardcourt this season, with a 24/4 win-loss record, winning two titles. He won the BNP Paribas Open, defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final, and the recently concluded China Open. After receiving a first-round bye in the Shanghai Masters, the third seed began his campaign with a dominating 6-2, 6-2 win over Juncheng Shang in the second round.
Wu Yibing only played two matches on the ATP Tour before the Shanghai Masters, losing both of them. He has been on the comeback trail after an injury in 2023, losing this season in Houston, to Jordan Thompson 4-6, 4-6, and in Hangzhou, having to retire against Coleman Wong.
The former World No. 54 has started the campaign at the Shanghai Masters on a great note, however. The Chinese player defeated Sumit Nagal 6-3, 6-3 in the first round, and then caused an upset in the second round, winning against 25th-seeded Nicolas Jarry 6-2, 6-1.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Wu Yibing prediction
Since his shock loss against Botic van de Zandschulp in the third round of the US Open, Alcaraz has bounced back strongly, winning ten matches on the bounce, including the title-decider in Beijing. The World No.2 hit 14 winners and won 79 percent first serve points in his tournament opener against Juncheng Shang in Shanghai.
Wu Yibing created a milestone moment for Chinese men's tennis when he won the Dallas Open last year, winning against John Isner 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 7-6 (12). However, injury has caused the Chinese player's ranking to drop below 500. In his match against Nicolas Jarry in the previous round, Wu just dropped two points on his first serve and won 79 percent of the points while returning the Chilean's second serve.
Alcaraz is the undisputed favorite, as his winning streak on hard courts has seen the Spaniard play some of his best tennis this year since his Wimbledon victory in July.
