Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev preview
Top seed Jannik Sinner will take on Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters on Thursday.
Sinner has been in outstanding form on the men's tour this year. He opened his account at the Majors by winning the Australian Open and added another to his locker by lifting the US Open last month in New York. He defeated Daniil Medvedev in Melbourne and Taylor Fritz at the Flushing Meadows, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.
The Italian entered Shanghai on the back of a runner-up finish in the China Open after cruising past Taro Daniel and Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the first few rounds and then showed his class against Ben Shelton in the fourth. The 23-year-old defeated Shelton in one hour and 30 minutes, 6-4, 7-6(1).
Daniil Medvedev, meanwhile, has had a solid season this year but not a lot to show for on paper. The World No. 5 has chalked up 45 wins from 62 matches, including runner-up finishes in Indian Wells and the Australian Open. He also reached the semifinals in Dubai, Miami, Wimbledon, and Beijing, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets.
The Russian started his campaign in Shanghai with a confident win against Thiago Seyboth Wild. He then outsmarted the likes of Matteo Arnaldi and Stefanos Tsitsipas en route to the quarterfinals. Medvedev outfoxed the Greek 7-6(6), 6-3.

Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev prediction
A blockbuster encounter is on the cards between two high-quality players on Thursday. Sinner has had the best season of his career so far and is still raising his level on tour. The Italian seems to have a sense of control over his game at the moment and no player would want to face him considering his clinical form.
Medvedev, on the contrary, has struggled to replicate his impeccable form from last year. The Russian reached nine finals on tour and captured five titles in 2023. However, he hasn't tasted silverware this year and will be keen to turn things around.
Medvedev is among the few players who've defeated Sinner in 2024 but the Italian will still have the edge in this bout. Sinner's incredible ball-striking ability and effortless movement have been too hot to handle for his opponents. With five hardcourt titles under his belt this year, the top seed is poised to continue his dominance in the Shanghai Masters.
Pick: Sinner to win in three sets.
