Aleksandar Vukic vs Maxime Cressy preview
Aleksandar Vukic will take on Maxime Cressy in the first round of qualifiers at the Shanghai Masters 2024.
Vukic has a 17-23 record for the season, though his record on hardcourts has been quite disappointing. He has gone 5-12 in main draw matches on the surface, with a third-round showing at the Winston-Salem Open being his best result.
Vukic has performed his best on grass this year. He made the quarterfinals of the Hall of Fame Open and the Libema Open, and the semifinals of the Eastbourne International. Following a first-round exit from the US Open, he kicked off his Asian swing at the Chengdu Open.
The Australian rallied from a set down to beat former top 20 player Borna Coric 3-6, 7-6 (9), 6-4 in the first round. He faced Pedro Martinez in the second round and lost to him in straight sets. He then participated in the Japan Open but couldn't get through the qualifying rounds.
Cressy couldn't back up the results of his breakthrough 2022 season last year. He won a title that year and had a 26-27 record, and compiled a dismal 9-20 record last year. However, he did reach the final in Montpellier last year.
Cressy's downward spiral continued this year. He has a handful of main draw appearances and has tallied a 1-4 record this season at the ATP level. His only win this year came at the Hall of Fame Open against Radu Albot. The American has an 11-9 record at the Challenger level with a couple of semifinal appearances.

Aleksandar Vukic vs Maxime Cressy prediction
Cressy was touted to follow in the footsteps of his big-serving compatriot, John Isner, after his breakthrough a couple of years ago. However, he has quickly fallen off everyone's radar after his string of disappointing results.
Cressy has a very slim chance to beat Vukic as the latter has performed quite poorly on hardcourts. However, the American has lost all three of his matches against top 100 players this year. Furthermore, he hasn't beaten a top 100 player on hardcourts since February 2023 and has lost his last nine matches against them.
Based on their results this year, Vukic is the clear favorite to win this match. Cressy is heavily reliant on his powerful serve, and his one-dimensional game has been figured out by his rivals. The Australian's loss would be quite a surprise given how his opponent has performed over the past year.
Pick: Aleksandar Vukic to win in straight sets.
