Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Alexandre Muller preview
Tenth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will take on Alexandre Muller in the third round of the Shanghai Masters.
Tsitsipas has had an ordinary season so far, considering his high standards. He's chalked up 40 wins from 68 matches, including title-winning runs in the Monte Carlo Masters and the Laver Cup. He also secured a runner-up finish in the Barcelona Open, where he lost to Casper Ruud in the finals.
The Greek entered Shanghai on the back of a disappointing first-round exit in Tokyo. He steadied the ship with a brilliant win against Kei Nishikori in the first round, 7-6(6), 6-4. Tsitsipas is making his fifth appearance in the Shanghai Masters this year.
Alexandre Muller, meanwhile, has played most of his tennis on the ATP Challenger circuit this year. He's garnered a quarterfinal run in the ASB Classic and a fourth-round appearance in the Italian Open. The Frenchman defeated Andrey Rublev and Arthur Fils en route to the last 16, but he eventually fell prey to Nicolas Jarry.
Muller entered Shanghai on the back of early exits in Chengdu and Tokyo. He started his campaign with a solid win against Luca Nardi in the first round, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. The 27-year-old is making his second appearance in the Shanghai Masters this year.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Alexandre Muller prediction
Despite winning a Masters 1000 event on tour, Tsitsipas has been quite inconsistent this year. He reached the finals of the Australian Open in 2023 but failed to make a notable impact in any of the Majors in 2024.
Muller, on the contrary, is working towards improving his game at the highest level. He's showcased his potential with a title-winning run in the San Marino Challenger and a runner-up finish in the Lyon Challenger. The Frenchman has a solid all-around game and will be eager to prove himself on the main tour.
Tsitsipas has been vulnerable to easy defeats in the last few months but seems to be transitioning into a more offensive player. The Greek committed 37 unforced errors in the previous match but also fired 40 winners against Nishikori. If he manages to find the lines in the first few exchanges and holds his nerve during crucial moments, he could sneak through to the fourth round.
Pick: Stefanos Tsitsipas to win in three sets.
