Amanda Anisimova vs Wang Xiyu preview
Third seed Amanda Anisimova will take on Wang Xiyu in the first round of the Singapore Open 2025.
Anisimova brought in the new season at the ASB Classic in Auckland. She led compatriot Alycia Parks by a set in the first round but eventually lost the match 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. She then participated in the Hobart International the following week and scored routine wins over Daria Saville and Anna Bondar to make the quarterfinals.
However, Anisimova withdrew before her match against Elina Avanesyan due to an injury. She recovered in time for the Australian Open and commenced her campaign Down Under with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Maria Lourdes Carle. She faced former US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the second round and lost to her 6-3, 7-5.
Wang has followed the same schedule as Anisimova this year and has posted almost similar results as well. She crashed out in the first round of the ASB Classic courtesy of a straight-sets loss at the hands of Sofia Kenin. She came through the qualifying rounds of the Hobart International but was beaten by Avanesyan in the first round.
Wang scored her first win of the year at the Australian Open, where she beat Julia Grabher in straight sets in the opening round. She gave eighth seed Emma Navarro a run for her money in the second round but came up short in the deciding set to lose the match.
Amanda Anisimova vs Wang Xiyu head-to-head
This will be the first career meeting between the two, so the head-to-head stands at 0-0 for now.

Amanda Anisimova vs Wang Xiyu prediction
Anisimova hasn't had the best start to the season. She reached the fourth round of the Australian Open last year and went out in the second round this time. Nevertheless, she has performed slightly better than her first-round opponent in Singapore.
Wang has a 1-3 record at the main draw level this year, while Anisimova has a 3-2 record. The Chinese player's only win came against a player ranked outside the top 400, and two of her three losses this year have come against an American.
Wang also has a 7-30 career record against top 50 players on hardcourts and has lost her last eight matches against them. Her previous win over a top 50 player on the surface was in February 2024 at the ATX Open in Austin. Given her struggles against quality opposition on hardcourts, this contest leans heavily in Anisimova's favor.
Pick: Amanda Anisimova to win in straight sets.
