Kenin has been primarily coached by her father for most of her career. However, in 2021, she announced that the two are parting ways and Michael Joyce would be her new coach. Kenin broke into WTA’s top 15 ranking after winning three singles titles in 2019 — the Hobart International, Mallorca Open, and the Guangzhou International Open. Her best performance in the US Open came in 2020, where she reached the fourth round, and her best performance in Wimbledon came in 2023, where she reached the third round.

In doubles, Sofia Kenin's best Grand Slam performance came at the 2020 French Open, where she reached the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinal, she and her partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands lost to Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková in three sets.
