India’s top men’s tennis player Somdev Devvarman lost his second round battle in the open 13 tournament. He was outclassed by Bernard Tomis of Australia. Bernard beat Somdev by 6-3, 7-5 in a one hour and 12 minutes battle. Somdev created a sensation in the tournament by beating world no 39 and local favorite Benoit Paire in first round. This star from the north east of India is going under a bad phase of career due to injury. He recently slipped to 354 in the world rankings. He is also under controversy in recent times due to a strike against AITA.
In singles, the Indian challenge in the tournament was over but in doubles Rohan Bopanna is still carrying Indian hopes. He, with his partner Colin Fleming, secured a place in the quarter final. They beat Robin Haase and Dick Norman in first round of match, 6-4, 6-2.
