Andrey Rublev vs Stan Wawrinka preview
Top seed Andrey Rublev will take on three-time Major champion Stan Wawrinka in the quarterfinals of the Stockholm Open 2024 on Friday.
Following a first-round bye, Rublev was up against Alexandre Muller in the second round here. The Russian put himself ahead courtesy of a break in the fifth game of the first set.
Muller eventually had a chance to get back on serve when Rublev served for the set in the 10th game. However, the latter fended off the two break points that he faced to take the set. He steamrolled his opponent in the next set and conceded only one game in it to wrap up a 6-4, 6-1 win.
Wawrinka beat Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 6-4 in his opener here to move into the second round, where Alejandro Davidovich Fokina awaited him. The Swiss was fully in control of the opening set, and a break in the seventh game of the set turned the tide in his favor.
The two were evenly matched for most of the second set until Davidovich Fokina upped the ante. He went on a three-game run towards the end of the set to claim it. He struck first at the start of the third set to go 2-0 up, only for Wawrinka to nab the next two games to level the score.
Davidovich Fokina snagged another break to go 4-2 up, and that marked the end of the road for him. Wawrinka nabbed five of the next six games to register a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win.

Andrey Rublev vs Stan Wawrinka prediction
Rublev kicked off his campaign here with a convincing win over Muller. He saved all three break points that he faced, and won 86 percent of his first serve points. He also struck 23 winners against 21 unforced errors and won 47 percent of points on return.
Wawrinka staved off a challenge from Davidovich Fokina to win back-to-back matches for the first time this year. He won 75 percent of points on first serve and hit 31 winners in contrast to 39 unforced errors.
Neither Rublev nor Wawrinka have secured consecutive wins over the other in this rivalry. If the pattern holds, then this is the Swiss' time to shine. However, with only eight main draw wins to his name, he will be the underdog this time. The Russian has a 40-20 record this year and has a 29-12 record on hardcourts. His results do indicate that he will possibly have the upper hand in this encounter.
Pick: Andrey Rublev to win in straight sets.
