Holger Rune vs Nicolas Jarry preview
Fourth seed Holger Rune will take on Nicolas Jarry in the first round of the Swiss Indoors Basel.
Rune has been determined to chalk up big results this year. After a runner-up finish in Brisbane, he reached the semifinals in Montpellier, Acapulco, Munich, Cincinnati and Tokyo. He also reached the fourth round of the French Open and Wimbledon, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
The Dane will enter Basel on the back of a fourth-round exit in Shanghai. He cruised past Matteo Berrettini and Jiri Lehecka en route to the last 16, but couldn't make his mark against Taylor Fritz. The American outfoxed Rune in 55 minutes, 6-1, 6-2.
Nicolas Jarry, meanwhile, has been the surprise package on the men's tour this year. He's amassed 18 wins from 40 matches, including runner-up finishes at the Argentina Open and the Italian Open. He also reached the quarterfinals of the Miami Open, where he lost to Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.
The Chilean will enter Basel on the back of a second-round exit in Stockholm. He started his campaign by crusing past Elias Ymer in the first round but came up shy against Miomir Kecmanovic. The Serb eliminated Jarry in two hours and 21 minutes, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(2).

Holger Rune vs Nicolas Jarry prediction
Holger Rune has put in the hard yards this season but hasn't been able to open his account this year. He captured three trophies in 2022 and one in 2023 and will be eager to add more silverware to his locker. The Dane has a patient all-around game with great defensive skills on court.
Jarry, on the contrary, is having one of the best seasons of his career this year. The Chilean came agonizingly close to claiming his fourth title on tour, but missed out in the finals of the Italian Open and the Argentina Open. He'll be expected to improve further in the next six months and challenge the best players at the highest level.
The Basel crowd can expect a close contest between Rune and Jarry in the first round. The player who adapts quickly and converts their chances will have the upper hand in this bout. Jarry has the pedigree to trouble Rune with his heavy serve and solid baseline game, but the Dane should be able to find solutions as the match progresses and pass this tricky challenge in the first round.
Pick: Rune to win in three sets.
