Jannik Sinner, Anna Kalinskaya, Paula Badosa, and Stefanos Tsitsipas have all had varied degrees of success at the Australian Open over the years. Heading into the 2025 edition of the tournament, they will not only be looking to improve on their own performances, but also be looking out for their significant others.

Sinner-Kalinskaya and Badosa-Tsitsipas are not the only couples looking to take the season’s opening Grand Slam by storm.

Here, we have listed four tennis power couples set to play at the 2025 Australian and their prospects in the men’s and women’s competition.

#4 Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa

Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas may not have gotten off to the best of starts to the season, but they have had success Down Under in the past. They will be taking heart from those performances.

Tsitsipas’ 24-7 win loss at the Slam translates to a final and three other semifinal appearances. The Greek defeated the likes of Jannik Sinner, Jiri Lehecka, and Karen Khachanov en-route to the final in 2023 but lost to Novak Djokovic.

Badosa, meanwhile, turned in her best performance at the tournament in 2022 by reaching the fourth round. She had taken wins over Ajla Tomljanovic, Martina Trevisan, and Marta Kostyuk before coming up short against Madison Keys.

This year, both Tsitispas and Badosa will be seeded 11th in the men’s and women’s singles draws, respectively.

#3 Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils

Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils have been together for the last few years. The couple welcomed their daughter Skai in 2022 and the Ukrainian has since made a successful return to the sport.

Her best result at the Australian Open, however, remains the back-to-back quarterfinal runs in 2018 and 2019. While she lost to Elise Mertens in 2018, it took eventual champion Naomi Osaka to end her run a year later.

Monfils, much like his partner, is a two-time Australian Open quarterfinalist, having achieved the feat in 2016 and 2022. Notably, he will be making an incredible 19th appearance at the season-opening Grand Slam this season.

Svitolina will be the 28th seed at this year’s tournament, but Monfils, whose ranking has dropped outside the top-50 in recent times, will be unseeded.

#2 Alex De Minaur and Katie Boulter

No. 1 ranked Aussie Alex De Minaur will look to keep home hopes alive at this year’s Australian Open. He will be joined by fiancee Katie Boulter, who as the top-ranked Briton will also carry the hopes of her nation.

The last time an Aussie triumphed at the home Slam was all the way back in 1976 when Mark Edmondson lifted the trophy. De Minaur has an uphill task ahead of himself, but he will definitely be looking to improve upon his best showing of reaching the fourth round in the last three years.

Boulter, meanwhile, will also be keen on finally getting past the second-round hurdle. Her 2-4 win loss at the tournament does not inspire much confidence but she has made massive improvements to her game in the last couple of years and after a strong start to the season at the United Cup, is primed for success.

While De Minaur will be the ninth seed in the men’s draw, Boulter will be the 23th seed in the women’s singles.

#1 Jannik Sinner and Anna Kalinskaya

Jannik Sinner lifted his maiden Grand Slam trophy at the Australian Open last year. His girlfriend, Anna Kalinskaya, meanwhile, also posted her career-best performance at the event by making the quarterfinals.

Sinner’s incredible run saw him beat some big names including 10-time former champion Novak Djokovic, while Kalinskaya collected the scalps of Jasmine Paolini and Sloane Stephens.

This year, the spotlight will once again be on Sinner, who is not only the defending champion but also the top seed in the men’s draw.

Kalinskaya, too, has a bunch of points to defend. She, however, can expect a much easier draw than last year by the virtue of being seeded at No. 13 this year.
