Coco Gauff faced a tough 2-6, 4-6 loss against Iga Swiatek in the 2024 French Open semifinals. The match was marred by a disputed line call in the second set. The umpire overruled an out call on Swiatek’s serve and gave her the point, even though Gauff’s return had hit the net.

Gauff protested that the call affected her shot and demanded a replay, but the umpire refused. A distraught Gauff had to resume the match with tears in her eyes. Chris Evert, who was commentating for Eurosport, stood up for the young American, saying that she trusted her honesty and integrity. The tennis legend also criticized the umpire for the "awful officiating".

"She is right, by the way. Coco Gauff is right, absolutely. She would never, ever tell a lie to the umpire. She is crying. That is awful, awful officiating, the umpire's decision. She is saying that she had a play on it," Evert said.

Alexander Zverev's domestic abuse trial in Berlin ended early on Friday with an out-of-court settlement between him and his ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea, prioritizing their daughter's well-being. Patea had accused Zverev of bodily harm, including pushing her against a wall and strangling her. The Berlin prosecutor's office had fined Zverev €450,000, which he contested.

The trial began on May 31 but moved behind closed doors for privacy reasons, ending unexpectedly on June 7. Kristin Hartmann, Patea's lawyer, confirmed they sought the settlement due to the daughter's suffering as the case continued.

"We applied for the settlement," Hartman said. "The daughter was really suffering. So now they can both look to the future and get on with their lives. We ended this deal with [the feeling] that people should stop throwing things at each other."

Alexander Zverev will take on third seed Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final on June 9.

Bianca Andreescu cracks up at Iga Swiatek’s awkward answer about her clay-court skills in French Open press conference

Bianca Andreescu found Iga Swiatek's response to a question about her clay-court dominance amusing. Following Swiatek's 6-2, 6-4 victory over Coco Gauff in the semifinal, a journalist asked the Pole about her comfort and confidence level on clay. Swiatek awkwardly replied "High" with a sheepish smile and a shrug.

"Can you describe your comfort and confidence level on clay?" Journalist asked.
"High," Swiatek replied during her French Open presser.

Andreescu shared her amusement on social media, posting a video of the exchange with laughing emojis.
