Coco Gauff responded to a fan comparing her athleticism to a 16-year-old high school football player.

The comment surfaced after a video of Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz promoting the China Open was shared on the WTA's Instagram. The fan claimed the teen athlete outperformed the American tennis star in activities like sprinting and weightlifting.

"A guy I know is 16 and plays high school football and says Coco Gauff is nowhere near as athletic as him. I disagree..." the fan wrote in the replies to WTA's post.

Gauff later acknowledged that male athletes often have a physical edge but stressed that handling pressure is key to true athletic performance.

"I can't and will never be able to do like majority of that so yeah bro's got me but I mean it's not really a flex considering he has a natural physical advantage being born male lol," Gauff wrote in reply.
"But also athletes train in a very sport specific way so I'm sure there are women who lift what he does and also women who are faster than him. just depends on the sport. but it will be hard to find one the can do that all of those across the board," she added.

Daniil Medvedev blasts ATP and Hawk-Eye tech for technical problems during China Open defeat

Daniil Medvedev was left infuriated with the ATP and Hawk-Eye technology following his 5-7, 3-6 defeat to second seed Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals of the 2024 China Open.

A controversial moment occurred in the 11th game of the first set when Medvedev believed a point was incorrectly awarded to Alcaraz, who then broke Medvedev's serve to take a 6-5 lead. During the changeover, the Russian tennis star expressed his dissatisfaction, criticizing the Hawk-Eye technology and expressing his anger at the ATP for repeatedly denying him access to the tech due to technical issues.

"Why (does) the ATP pay Hawkeye then? Hawkeye sucks, no? Don’t trust Hawkeye. Not my sponsor," Medvedev was heard ranting.

World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the Beijing final for the first time, where he will take on defending champion Jannik Sinner on October 2. Alcaraz currently leads Sinner 5-4 in their head-to-head record. Their most recent encounter took place in the 2024 French Open semifinal, where the Spanish tennis star, the eventual champion, triumphed with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

If Alcaraz triumphs in the final, it will be the first time Jannik Sinner will lose a title clash in 2024.
