Jannik Sinner's WADA appeal takes a turn as CAS issues statement on doping allegations

Jannik Sinner’s doping case has taken a new turn following WADA's (World Anti-Doping Agency) appeal against the ITIA's (International Tennis Integrity Agency) ruling, seeking a two-year suspension for the Italian player.

Sinner had tested positive twice for the banned steroid Clostebol earlier this year, but after successfully appealing, he was allowed to keep competing. The ITIA accepted that the substance had been unintentionally introduced via a spray used by his former physiotherapist, resulting in Sinner only forfeiting prize money and ranking points from Indian Wells.

On September 26, WADA escalated the case by filing an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). CAS confirmed its investigation has started but noted it is unclear when a final decision will be made.

Jannik Sinner is currently in China for his Shanghai Masters campaign. The top-seeded Italian received a bye into the second round, where he defeated Taro Daniel 6-1, 6-4. Sinner will take on 31st seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry for a spot in the Round of 16, where he could face either Roberto Carballes Baena or 14th seed Ben Shelton.

Tennis legend Boris Becker recalls Denis Shapovalov's disqualification after Ben Shelton triumphs over the Canadian at Shanghai Masters

Boris Becker mentioned Denis Shapovalov's disqualification at the Mubadala Citi DC Open while commentating on Ben Shelton's 6-3, 7-5 victory over the Canadian in the second round of the 2024 Shanghai Masters.

In August, Shapovalov and Shelton faced off in the quarterfinals of the Mubadala Citi DC Open, where the former was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct after throwing his racket and yelling at a fan. This initially led to the Canadian tennis star losing all his ranking points and prize money from the tournament, along with a $36,400 fine, though Shapovalov later appealed the decision and overturned the ruling.

Following Shelton's win in Shanghai, Shapovalov congratulated him during their post-match exchange at the net. The moment was shared online, with Becker reacting and subtly alluding to Shapovalov's disqualification in Washington.

In a short clip shared on Instagram, Mouratoglou likened Federer to Messi, emphasizing his natural talent, while he compared Djokovic to Ronaldo, highlighting his dedication and work ethic.

“I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday, and we were saying that Federer is Messi, and Djokovic is Ronaldo," Mouratoglou said.
“Why? Because Federer is pure crazy talent and he just needs to feel what he’s doing. While Djokovic is the super hard worker that pays attention to every single detail,” he added.

Becker commented on the clip, questioning where the Spanish player fit into the comparison.
