Bill Maher disputes Charlamagne the God's claims about racial factors in Caitlin Clark's popularity
Tennis icon Serena Williams was recently brought up by Bill Maher in a debate with Charlamagne tha God, challenging the latter's view on racial dynamics affecting Caitlin Clark's WNBA popularity. Clark, who plays for the Indiana Fever, is the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division-1 history for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Clark's rapid rise has sparked discussions about racial bias in sports media, with A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces suggesting that Clark's acclaim reflects systemic prejudices against Black athletes. Charlamagne, supporting Wilson's stance on Maher's 'Real Time' show, highlighted disparities in recognition between Clark and Wilson.
"I'm just saying that I think A'ja Wilson has a point. I think sometimes when Black women say certain things, we should listen. Especically her, because I'm not in her shoes," he said.
Maher questioned Charlamagne's implication of racism by pointing out Serena Williams' success in tennis as a Black athlete, to which the latter conceded he had no immediate rebuttal to Maher's challenge.
"Why was Serena Williams such a big star? Because people like that. They didn't not watch her because she was Black, right?" Maher said.
Boris Becker sends heartfelt messages to Kylian Mbappe following the latter's nose injury in Euro 2024 clash
Boris Becker extended well-wishes to Kylian Mbappe, who suffered a bloody nose following a collision with Austrian player Kevin Danso during France's 1-0 win over Austria in Euro 2024. The French captain received on-field treatment and was later taken to the hospital due to a possible broken nose.
On his Instagram story, the German tennis legend shared his concern for Mbappe's injury and expressed hope for his quick recovery.
"Get well soon, we need U at the Euros KM," Becker wrote.
