Casper Ruud jokes about Rafael Nadal’s age after winning their Nordea Open doubles debut
Casper Ruud teased Rafael Nadal about his age after their debut doubles victory over the second seeds Miguel Reyes-Varela and Guido Andreozzi 6-1, 6-4 at the Nordea Open in Bastad. The pair moved on to the quarterfinals, where they will meet either Theo Arribage and Roman Safiullin or Mariano Navone and Cameron Norrie.
In a post-match on-court interview, Ruud said he was coping better with rain delays than the Spaniard, as the latter was getting older.
"Like Rafa said it was a good match. Coming to the rain delays I am used to it, more than Rafa I guess being from Norway and he is from Spain. He’s getting old. So I’m not sure how his body feels having to start & stop all the time," Casper Ruud said.
In singles, Rafael Nadal will take on 11-time Grand Slam champion Bjorn Borg's son Leo in the first round on July 16, while second seed Casper Ruud received a bye into the second round where he will face either Federico Coria or Thiago Monteiro.
Andrea Pekovic hails Barbora Krejcikova's character and humor following the latter's Wimbledon win
Andrea Petkovic lauded Barbora Krejcikova's victory at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
Petkovic emphasized Krejcikova's remarkable performances and highlighted her exceptional technique, which she considered possibly the best in the game.
"It’s poetic justice that an understated personality like Barbora should win in the country of understatement," Andrea Petkovic said. "Her tennis is beautiful."
"A study of the game like no other – you see her regularly in the stands for all kinds of matches – she might have the most beautiful technique of all," she added.
Petkovic added that Krejcikova moves her arm smoothly and always hits the ball at the right spot. She continued to compliment the Czech star’s foresight and cleverness, saying it helps her compensate for any weaknesses in her speed.
"Everything seems to flow effortlessly. Her swings are easy and complete, the elbow the exact right distance from her body, the hit point in front of her, the eye impeccable. What she may lack in quickness, she makes up for in anticipation and wits," Andrea Petkovic said.
