In a similar incident, Novak Djokovic also had to abbreviate his practice session with Holger Rune due to some unease in his knee.
Emma Raducanu dismisses the impact of Andy Murray’s retirement
Emma Raducanu made a blunt remark while addressing Andy Murray's retirement in a pre-tournament presser at the 2024 US Open, suggesting that she wasn't affected by the tennis legend's absence in New York.
"No, it doesn’t feel different at all. I think tennis is unforgiving in that sense no matter who you are. It just moves on. There’s always another match; there’s always another tournament," she said in her press conference.
"Of course (Andy Murray’s) achieved amazing things and I watched him win this tournament, but yeah, it’s a fast pace, just like life is. You know, it’s old news the next day kind of thing," she said.
Coco Gauff backs video reviews at US Open to ensure umpire accountability
Coco Gauff has expressed her approval for the introduction of video reviews as she prepares to defend her title at the New York Major.
The run-up to the US Open on the North American hardcourt was marked by a series of disputed calls that notably impacted players like Taylor Fritz, Denis Shapovalov, and Felix Auger-Aliassime. Gauff herself has had disagreements with chair umpires over contentious decisions.
In her pre-tournament press conference, the American voiced her frustration with receiving apologies from umpires only after matches, arguing that replay technology would ensure greater accountability and reduce player frustration over disputed calls.
"US Open had it last year. I didn't have to use it. Hopefully I won't have to use it this year, but I think it's a great thing. You know, the worst is when you get apologized to afterwards, and it's kind of just like, thanks, but, you know, what is that going to do for me now?" Coco Gauff said.
"I think it'll just hold everybody accountable. I think there will be a lot less player frustration and outbursts with that. I'm excited. I hope to see it continue to expand not just in this tournament but all tournaments," she added.
The defending champion and third seed will take on Varvara Gracheva in the first round on August 26.
