Emma Raducanu couldn’t hold back her tears during the post-match press conference following her shock first-round defeat to former World No. 4 Sofia Kenin, who won 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 at the 2024 US Open.

During the press conference, the British star expressed regret over her lackluster performance against the American, admitting that Kenin had "outplayed" her.

"I feel down, I feel sad. Obviously, this is a tournament I really want to do well in so... after the first set I was outplayed completely and I think I did well to equal it," Raducanu said.

This was Raducanu's worst Grand Slam showing after her injury comeback earlier this year. The Brit recorded her best Grand Slam performance this season in the Wimbledon Championships, where she reached the Round of 16, before losing 2-6, 7-5, 2-6 to qualifier Lulu Sun.

Sofia Kenin will next take on compatriot and sixth seed Jessica Pegula in the second round of the US Open.

Daniil Medvedev shared his thoughts on World No. 2 Novak Djokovic exceeding his expectations by defeating Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(3), 7-6(2) in the final to secure the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

During his post-match press conference following his 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Dusan Lajovic in the US Open first round, Medvedev expressed that his admiration for Djokovic grew even more after witnessing the Serbian star rise to the occasion under immense pressure.

"Then Novak, 37 years old. I saw some highlights. Playing maybe the best match of the season. I was amazed by how he's able to come into this match where there is a lot of pressure -- that's the only thing he never won -- and still be even better than himself usually," he said.
"And beat Carlos, who was unstoppable this year, I was amazed even more, even if I'm already amazed by Novak. So, yeah, unbelievable, and not much more I can add," he added.

The 2021 US Open champion reached the second round where he will take on Fabian Marozsan on August 29. The winner of this match will face either 31st seed Flavio Cobolli or Zizou Bergs in the third round.

Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, kicked off his US Open campaign with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Li Tu in the first round. The third seed will now take on Botic van de Zandschulp in the second round.

Novak Djokovic, meanwhile, cruised past Radu Albot and compatriot Laslo Djere (walkover) to reach the third round, where he will face 2024 National Bank Open winner Alexei Popyrin. The winner of this match will take on either 13th seed Ben Shelton or 20th seed Frances Tiafoe.

Serena Williams' former coach Patrick Mouratoglou shares memories of his first practice session with the American

Serena Williams' former coach Patrick Mouratoglou has shared how the tennis legend tried to intimidate him during their first practice session together. Mouratoglou, who began coaching Williams ahead of the 2012 Wimbledon Championships, encountered a rocky start due to her seemingly apathetic attitude.

In the ESPN+ documentary 'In The Arena: Serena Williams,' Mouratoglou disclosed that the morning session at the All England Club started poorly when Williams disregarded his greeting.

"Serena loves to intimidate people. She loves it. And she was trying to intimidate me that day. It was the first day of practice in Wimbledon. I'm waiting on the court for practice. She enters the court. I say, 'good morning', and she passes like this. Zero emotion on her face. She doesn't even look at me," Mouratoglou said.

To establish his authority, Mouratoglou responded by firmly tapping the brim of her cap, compelling her to acknowledge him.

Under Patrick Mouratoglou's guidance, Serena Williams went on to win 10 of her 23 Grand Slam titles before parting ways in 2022.
