Paula Badosa fires back at critics blaming her form struggles on her relationship with Stefanos Tsitsipas
Paula Badosa has spoken about the criticism linking her form struggles to her relationship with her boyfriend and fellow tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The couple has faced scrutiny for allegedly letting their private lives affect their tennis ever since they went public about their relationship. Badosa dealt with injuries and inconsistent performances, while Tsitsipas also saw a dip in form.
In a recent interview with La Vanguardia, the Spanish tennis star addressed these claims, acknowledging the difficulty of dealing with such criticism. She suggested that the scrutiny likely comes from people who do not fully understand the situation.
"Criticism is never easy to deal with, although sometimes we find it funny because people don't realise that we are two people who share the same passion. Sometimes, apart from separately, we also train together, so in the end we train as much or more than anyone else," Badosa said.
"I could understand this criticism of distraction more if it were with a person from another world, but being two athletes with a very clear objective, what I think is that people don't even know what they are judging," she added.
Paula Badosa also called it "disrespectful" for people to suggest that their relationship has negatively impacted their performances.
