Serena Williams dedicates humorous song to rival Maria Sharapova at ESPY Awards

Serena Williams looked back on her rivalry with Maria Sharapova and sang a funny song for the Russian at the 2024 ESPY Awards.

The duo faced each other 22 times on the WTA tour, with Sharapova beating Williams in only two matches, including the 2004 Wimbledon final.

At the ESPYS, Williams paid tribute to their rivalry with a humorous song called “She could be my tennis ball.” The American's song was inspired by Jamie Foxx’s song, “Can I be your tennis ball?” at the 2003 ESPY Awards.

"She could be by tennis ball, tennis ball. She’s Russian, blonde, and very tall," Serena Williams sang. "People say we had a feud, which was presumptuous and kind of rude."
"Besides that, I beat her 20 times; just want it clear, don’t have to rhyme,” she belted out. “She always gave me her best shot. We were like the guys in Challengers [the movie], but way more hot."
"So let me put this on the record, y’all – that she could be my tennis ball."

Daniil Medvedev receives warning for unsportsmanlike behavior following profanity at chair umpire in Wimbledon SF

Daniil Medvedev got a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct during his 7-6(1), 3-6, 4-6, 4-6 loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 Wimbledon semifinals after swearing at the chair umpire following a controversial call.

The incident occurred while Medvedev was serving for the set at 5-4 in the first set, facing a break point at 30-40. Alcaraz played a drop shot, and although Medvedev rushed from the baseline to reach it, chair umpire Eva Asderaki ruled that the ball had bounced twice, awarding the game to Alcaraz.

Medvedev reacted furiously and cursed "F**k you" in anger at the umpire, who then called the tournament supervisor to discuss his behavior. Fortunately, Medvedev was not defaulted from the match and was issued only a warning.

Carlos Alcaraz got booed by Wimbledon crowd for his cheeky comment on Spain vs. England’s Euro 2024 final

Carlos Alcaraz faced backlash from the Wimbledon crowd and had to apologize after his remarks about the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England.

In an on-court interview following his four-set victory over Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals, Alcaraz mentioned July 14 would be a significant day for Spanish people because of the Euro and Wimbledon finals.

"It's gonna be good day for Spanish people as well," Alcaraz said.

The local fans, assuming he was rooting for Spain over England, responded with loud boos. Alcaraz then clarified that he didn't predict a Spanish victory in the prestigious soccer tournament, emphasizing that he simply anticipated an enjoyable day.

"I didn't say Spain is going to win. I'm just saying that it's going to be a really enjoyable day," he added.

Carlos Alcaraz will become the youngest man to successfully defend his Wimbledon title since Boris Becker if he comes out on top in Sunday's final.
