Carlos Alcaraz's coach Juan Carlos Ferrero talks about the challenges faced by the Spaniard in the French Open final

Carlos Alcaraz's coach Juan Carlos Ferrero discussed the challenges Alcaraz faced during his 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Alexander Zverev in the French Open final. Despite trailing two sets to one and needing a medical timeout in the fourth set due to leg issues, Alcaraz overcame these obstacles to win the final two sets.

"I really don't know what happened in the third set because it seems to me that all was under control," Ferrero told Eurosports [1:47].

Ferrero noted that Alcaraz experienced tension in his legs and arms and was overthinking about winning. He suggested that losing the third set helped Alcaraz reset mentally and return to his best performance.

"But at the end, I think he got too much tensions on his legs on his arms, and thinking too much about winning the match. And he needed to lose that set to start over and stay calm and start to play his real level," he added.

Emma Raducanu highlighted her wildcard entry at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as pivotal to her US Open victory later that year.

Before her 2024 grass court season, the Brit explained the significance of the Rothesay Open in Nottingham, where her WTA debut earned her a Wimbledon wildcard. Despite a fourth-round exit at the SW19 due to breathing issues, Raducanu's performance set the stage for her groundbreaking US Open win over Leylah Fernandez a month later.

“If I didn’t get that wild card [at Wimbledon], who knows what would have happened or if the US would have happened? So I think life is a compilation of butterfly effects and small moments that you don’t know what’s going to happen," Raducanu said in an interview with The Telegraph.

Emma Raducanu began her grass-court campaign in Nottingham by defeating Ena Shibahara 6-1, 6-4 in the first round. The Brit will now take on Daria Snigur in the second round.
