Jannik Sinner's coach Darren Cahill addresses Italian's failed drug tests and comparisons to Simona Halep
Jannik Sinner's coach, Darren Cahill, explained why Sinner's failed drug tests were kept private, unlike Simona Halep's public doping case.
Cahill revealed that Sinner's team quickly identified the source of contamination—a massage by his physiotherapist, who unintentionally exposed him to Clostebol via a healing spray—and communicated it to the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). This swift action allowed Sinner to avoid public scrutiny and continue competing.
In contrast, Halep's positive test for Roxadustat at the 2022 US Open became public as she was unaware of how she had been contaminated, leading to a prolonged investigation and eventual suspension.
"I don't know the intricacies of her particular case, although I do understand that she didn't know where the contamination came from. So, it took some time for her to determine where it actually came from," Cahill said in an interview with ESPN.
"With Jannik's case, they knew exactly where it came from. Within five minutes, they knew this could be the only possible place that it came from. So, they were pretty quick to get the sports resolutions, to get that temporary ban lifted," he added.
Nick Kyrgios defends himself and Denis Shapovalov against criticism over Jannik Sinner doping remarks

Shapovalov, who had faced a controversial disqualification at the 2024 Citi Open, criticized the "different rules for different players," while Sandgren echoed these sentiments, calling the situation a "crazy double standard."
An X account accused the trio of hypocrisy, to which Kyrgios responded by emphasizing their clean past.
"We haven’t taken steroids," Nick Kyrgios wrote.
