Bianca Andreescu vs Marta Kostyuk preview
Top seed Bianca Andreescu and fifth seed Marta Kostyuk will clash in a blockbuster quarterfinal at the Thailand Open in Hua Hin on Friday.
The former US Open champion has made an underwhelming start to the 2023 season. Andreescu managed to win a match each at the Adelaide International 1 and the Australian Open before heading to Hua Hin.
The Canadian has fared much better so far this week, winning her first couple of matches in straight sets. After starting her campaign with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Harriet Dart, the World No. 42 secured a 6-2, 7-5 win over Anastasia Zakharova.
Kostyuk, all of 20, has had a comparatively more successful campaign so far in 2023. The Ukrainian reached the quarterfinals at the Adelaide International 1 after having started in the qualifying rounds. Along the way, she scalped the 2023 Australian Open runner-up Elena Rybakina.
While she slumped to a defeat in the first round of qualifying at the Adelaide International 2 the very next week, the World No. 60 made it all the way to the third round at Melbourne Park.
Kostyuk needed three sets to see off Liang En-shuo in the first round at Hua Hin before defeating Nao Hibino in straight sets to make it to her second quarterfinal of the season.
Bianca Andreescu vs Marta Kostyuk head-to-head
Andreescu and Kostyuk have never squared off on the tour before, so their head-to-head currently stands at a 0-0 deadlock.

Bianca Andreescu vs Marta Kostyuk prediction
Interestingly, both are adept at mixing up their solid baseline hitting with dropshots and deft touches when required. That sets up an enthralling clash between two of the most exciting young talents.
While Andreescu comes into this contest as the more experienced and higher-ranked player, she hasn't had an encouraging start to the year. Kostyuk, on the other hand, has beaten quality players and that could boost her confidence heading into this clash.
However, the Canadian is a feisty opponent and won't give up easily. If Kostyuk can keep her errors in check, she could claim the win.
Pick: Marta Kostyuk to win in three sets.
