3) Zverev Shocks FedEx
This was probably the result that truly announced the arrival of the German teen on the big stage. Zverev made the world sit up and take note after adding the great Roger Federer to the list of his victims.
The stage was the Halle Open semifinals ahead of this year’s Wimbledon. Zverev defeated the 17-time Grand Slam champion 7-6, 5-7, 6-3. It did not matter to him that he was playing his idol.
The only thing that mattered was the fact that he became the youngest player to beat Roger Federer since Rafael Nadal did so in the 2005 French Open.
He dethroned the defending champion with his big serves and matching groundstrokes but fell in the final hurdle against compatriot Florian Mayer. However, Zverev had become a sensation overnight.
