Another jewel was added to Alexander Zverev’s seemingly burgeoning career in July when broke into the top-30 in ATP rankings. More importantly, he became the youngest player since Rafael Nadal in March 2005 to do so.
A career high 33 wins helped a long way while top-class performances in ATP tournaments also were a factor. Apart from the finals at Halle and Nice, Zverev also reached the semifinals at Montpellier, Munich and Washington.
His performance in Washington came in the following week after he rose to 27th in the ranking. He was bested in the semifinal by Gael Monfils but it did the German’s reputation no harm.
