The Year 2011 in Numbers : Why is this Djoker’s year ??

Tennis Magazine ranked it the 3rd Greatest tennis season of the Open Era, behind Roger Federer‘s 2006 and Rod Laver’s 1969.

Pete Sampras hailed Novak Djokovic‘s 2011 season as the best he has ever seen in his lifetime, calling it “one of the best achievements in all of sports.”

Boris Becker called Djokovic’s season “one of the very best years in tennis of all time,”

Here are the eleven reasons to crown off a remarkable 2011 for the Djoker, who got to some serious business.

11: The number of ATP finals he reached the calendar year, losing just one to Andy Murray.

10: The number of ATP Tournaments Djoker won this including three Grand Slams.

9: He won only 9 of his 19 tie-breaks played this year, a record which we would like to improve further.

8: The total number of doubles matches he played on the ATP circuit with as many as 5 different partners, he also partnered Andy Murray at Miami Masters.

7: Yes, It look as many as 7 tournaments and 6 months before he finally lost a match on the ATP Tour, the defeat coming against Swiss ace Roger Federer.

6: Yeah, only six ! The number of matches he lost. Also its the number of times he faced and defeated Nadal this year (all of them being finals).

5: The number of ATP Masters Tournament the Serb pocketed this year.

4: Wins against Fedex, four of them, his only Grand Slam loss coming against the Former World No 1 at Roland Garros in the semi-finals.

3: That’s the number of Grandslams he won, including the Australia Open, The Wimbledon and The US Open.

2: Of the six matches he lost this season, two came as retirements. He was forced to retire against Andy Murray in the Cincinnati finals and also shrug off against Juan Martin Del Potro.

1: His Current ranking, the first Serbian to end the year as World No 1.

0: He hasn’t lost a single match in the year to a player outside World Top 50.

A single picture tells the whole story: Djoker taking a bite of the Wimbledon grass.

(P.S. This article coming from an ardent Nadal supporter, Djokovic made me do this, so just imagine his level of play in the past 52 weeks.)
