Paul secured his first ATP 500 title at the 2024 Queen's Club Championships, defeating Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets. Paul’s other accomplishments include winning the 2021 ATP Stockholm Open and reaching the semifinals at the 2023 Australian Open. He was considered one of the best players in the world as a junior and his peak ITF junior ranking was No. 3, which he achieved in December 2015.

In 2015, Tommy Paul played in two junior Grand Slam singles finals. He won in the boys' singles title at the 2015 French Open, defeating fellow American Taylor Fritz in a three-set match. Additionally, he reached the doubles final of the same tournament alongside fellow American William Blumberg. Paul also reached the final of the boys' singles event at the 2015 US Open, where he was defeated by Fritz in three sets.

He believes that his interests beyond tennis have been essential in helping him manage the challenges of life as a professional player.

Besides tennis, Tommy Paul also played basketball and baseball in his early years. Although he was skilled in all three sports, he ultimately chose tennis as his main pursuit. Some of his famous wins include defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-final of the 2023 National Bank Open in Toronto.
