The American tennis stars had a decent outing at Wimbledon 2024. Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz made it into the quarterfinals of the tournament while Emma Navarro and Coco Gauff made it to the second week. However, the American wait for a Wimbledon champion will continue for another year.
Gauff was one of the favorites to win the singles competition at Wimbledon this year after impressive performances over the last six months. However, the 20-year-old struggled to mount a title challenge while playing against Navarro, who, along with Fritz and Paul, stole the show by reaching the last eight of the British Slam.
Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul and Emma Navarro earn more money at Wimbledon than Coco Gauff
Coco Gauff faced Emma Navarro in their round-of-16 encounter at Wimbledon. The All-American clash produced an upset for the World No. 2 who lost in straight sets to Navarro. The 20-year-old was one of the favourites to win the title, especially with Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka already out of the tournament, but failed to grab the opportunity.
For her round-of-16 run, Coco Gauff earned a total of £226,000 ($290,866), making her the fourth-highest earner among the American players at this year's Major, on par with Madison Keys and Danielle Collins who both lost at the round-of-16 stage, against Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova, respectively.
Ben Shelton earned the same amount in prize money as he lost his round-of-16 clash against Jannik Sinner too.
Meanwhile, Emma Navarro enjoyed her career-best run at Wimbledon, making it to the quarterfinals of the tournament. The 23-year-old knocked out Coco Gauff on her way to the last eight before losing to Italian Jasmine Paolini in straight sets. Her run earned her £375,000 ($482,581).
In the men's section, Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul are the highest earners, earning the same amount of money as Emma Navarro for making it to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Taylor Fritz came from two sets down to knock out the fourth seed Alexander Zverev in the round of 16. The American reached the quarterfinals at SW19 for the first time since 2022 but could not make it through to the last four as he lost to Lorenzo Musetti. In a thrilling five-setter which swung both ways, Musetti defeated Fritz 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to make his maiden Wimbledon semifinal.
Similarly, Tommy Paul delivered his career-best performance at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in 2024. The 27-year-old defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in the round of 16 to book a place among the last eight at Wimbledon.
Paul faced defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals and lost in four sets. The American started off in fine fashion winning the first set, but Alcaraz found his 'A-game' soon and won the next three. The Spaniard continued his title defence by beating Paul 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2.
