The Indo-Swiss pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis crashed out of the French Open in the quarter-final. Mirza and Hingis lost to Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova in straight sets 7-5 6-2.
Mattek-Sands and Safarova upset the top-seeded Indo-Swiss pair at the Philippe-Chatrier Court. The 7th seeded team made no unforced errors and were completely deserving of the win. Both the teams were in red-hot form ahead of the match, reaching the quarters without dropping a single set.
The first set was a close affair, but neither pair was able to dominate on the serve as Mirza-Hingis were broken thrice, while Mattek-Sands and Safarova were broken twice. Mirza-Hingis made the most of the break points that came their way with a 100% break-point conversion. Their opponents, however, failed to convert 4 of the 7 opportunities they had.
The second set was quite straight-forward for the American-Czech pair as they steamrolled their opponents, breaking them thrice. The first seeds put up little resistance in the set, breaking Safarova and Mattek-Sands just once, winning only 25 points throughout the set.
