Coco Gauff vs Gao Xinyu preview
USA's Coco Gauff will take on China's Gao Xinyu in the quarterfinals of the United Cup 2025.
Gauff made a winning debut at the United Cup by beating Canada's Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 6-2 in her very first match. After Taylor Fritz lost his singles tie, she teamed up with him to win the decisive mixed doubles rubber to seal the tie 2-1 in their favor.
Gauff then faced Croatia's Donna Vekic, who knocked her out of the Paris Olympics last summer. The American got her revenge this time and defeated her 6-4, 6-2. She took to the court for the mixed doubles match with Fritz once again and beat their rivals in straight sets to sweep the tie 3-0 against Croatia.
Gao took the lead role in China's campaign after World No. 5 Zheng Qinwen withdrew from the tournament. She rallied from a set down to beat Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 in her first singles match. The Chinese defeated the Brazilians 3-0 at the end of the day.
Gao next faced Germany's Laura Siegemund and secured a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win over her. However, she was the only one to win her match as her team went down in the men's singles and the mixed doubles matches to lose the tie 2-1 against the Germans. However, they still advanced to the quarterfinals by virtue of being the best performing runner-up team in Perth.
Coco Gauff vs Gao Xinyu head-to-head
This will be the first career meeting between them, so the head-to-head stands at 0-0 for now.

Coco Gauff vs Gao Xinyu prediction
Gao, currently ranked 175th, has stepped up big time in Zheng's absence to steer China's chances at the United Cup. She has punched way above her weight by beating World No. 80 Siegemund and World No. 17 Haddad Maia. However, she could find Gauff a cut above her rivals so far.
Gauff has shined on her United Cup debut, and has remained unbeaten in singles and doubles. Having closed out the 2024 season by winning the WTA Finals, she will be eager to start the new season with a bang as well. She excels during this time of the year and started the last two seasons by winning the ASB Classic in Auckland.
Gauff has a 25-2 record against players ranked outside the top 100 and won all nine of her matches against them last year. Given her record against lower-ranked players and her current form, she will be expected to put an end to Gao's breakout run at the United Cup.
Pick: Coco Gauff to win in straight sets.
