USA's Coco Gauff will lock horns with Czechia's Karolina Muchova in the semifinals of the United Cup 2025.

Gauff began her campaign with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Canada's Leylah Fernandez in her first group tie. After Taylor Fritz lost his singles match, they teamed up to beat the Canadians in the mixed doubles match to seal the tie in their favor. She next defeated Croatia's Donna Vekic 6-4, 6-2 in singles and came out on top in her mixed doubles encounter as well.
The Americans beat Croatia 3-0 to book their place in the quarterfinals. Up against China in the last eight, Gauff put her team in the lead with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over Zhang Shuai. Fritz then won his singles match, which qualified the Americans for the semifinals for the second time after 2023.
Muchova, meanwhile, was barely tested during her 6-2, 6-2 win over Malene Helgo in her opener. She needed to step up in the mixed doubles match after Tomas Machac had lost his singles match and carried her team to victory to beat Norway 2-1.
Muchova went down to Poland's Iga Swiatek in straight sets in her next encounter. Machac kept them in contention by winning his singles match, but the Czechs came up short in the mixed doubles match. Nevertheless, they still qualified for the quarterfinals by being the best runner-up team in Sydney.
The Czech's took on Italy for a spot in the last four. Muchova beat World No. 4 Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-2, and Machac won his match as well to send his team into the semifinals.

Both players are contesting the United Cup for the first time, but Gauff has really shone on her debut. She's yet to lose in either singles or doubles and has a 5-0 record so far. Following her loss to Swiatek, meanwhile, Muchova bounced back in impressive fashion to trounce Paolini, and she erased all 10 break points that she faced.
Despite a stellar performance in the quarterfinals, Muchova will need to raise her level even more if she wants to take down Gauff. The American has won all three of their matches without losing a set.
Gauff is riding the high from closing out the 2024 season by winning the WTA Finals, during which she also beat her rivals Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka. Despite some flaws, her game appears to be more put together. Muchova has been unable to bamboozle her with her guile, and the American's current form suggests that she won't fall prey to Muchova's tactics this time either.
