Jodie Burrage will be Coco Gauff's second-round opponent in the second round of the Australian Open 2025. The Brit won her first main-draw match at the Australian Open by beating French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean 6-2, 6-4.

Gauff is among the heavy favorites to win the Melbourne Major and has a chance of becoming the World No. 1 if she goes all the way. The American entered the tournament after helping Team USA to a United Cup triumph and booked her place in the second round after beating 2020 champion Sofia Kenin 6-3, 6-3 in the first round.

If Coco Gauff defeats Jodie Burrage, she will beat either 30th seed Leylah Fernandez or Cristina Bucsa in the third round. On that note, let us take a look at four unknown facts about the Brit.

#4. Top 15 in Juniors

Jodie Burrage was ranked as high as 14th in the junior tennis singles rankings in January 2017. The Brit won six singles titles during her younger days across clay and hard courts. Her best Grand Slam junior performance was reaching the third round of the Australian Open in 2017.

Burrage won five doubles titles during her junior days and her best performance at a Major was reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in 2017.

#3. Past encounter vs Coco Gauff

The second-round encounter at the Australian Open will be the second meeting between Gauff and Burrage. Their past meeting came in the Round of 16 of the Rothesay International in Eastbourne, with the American registering a comprehensive 6-1, 6-1 win to reach the quarterfinals.

Here, the American registered a 6-3, 6-3 win over compatriot Jessica Pegula to set up a semifinal clash with another fellow American, Madison Keys. The match produced another 6-3, 6-3 result, but it was Keys who came out on top. She went on to win the tournament after defeating ninth seed Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 7-6(13) in the final.

#2. WTA singles final

World No. 173 Jodie Burrage is yet to win a singles title on the WTA Tour but she did reach a final. This came at the Nottingham Open, where she was unseeded.

Burrage started the tournament by just about edging out Tereza Martincova 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(4). She then triumphed 7-5, 6-3 over Magda Linette to book her place in the quarterfinals. Here, the Brit beat another Pole, Magdalena Frech, registering a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 triumph before defeating French veteran Alize Cornet 7-5, 7-5 to reach her maiden singles final.

Burrage faced Katie Boulter in an all-British final, and the latter won 6-3, 6-3 to win her maiden WTA singles title.

#1. Top-5 win

Jodie Burrage has never gone past 85th in the WTA Rankings but she has registered victory over a Top 5 player during her career so far. The tournament was the Rothesay International in Eastbourne, and the Brit received a wildcard to the tournament's main draw.

Burrage booked her place in the second round of the WTA 500 event by beating Petra Martic 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Here, she faced top seed Paula Badosa, who was ranked fourth in the world at the time. Burrage produced a fine performance to triumph 6-4, 6-3 over the Spaniard and create one of the upsets of the tournament. She lost 1-6, 2-6 to Beatriz Haddad Maia in the very next round.
