In the first round, he overcame compatriot Maximilian Marterer. He needed four sets to overcome Marterer as the qualifier stole the second set in a tiebreaker. However, Zverev showcased his serving prowess to win 21 points with aces and converted six break points to win the match 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2.
